More on sleep…..

I was just thinking about hypnopompic and hypnagogic states, and wondering whether they just occur when the blood vessels are constricting to allow sleep to happen (or are slow dilating upon waking). Probably.

I reckon that the reason people need a hot cup of coffee to wake up in the morning is nothing to do with the caffeine…    more likely that the heat from the drink helps the blood vessels in your brain to dilate, promoting wakefulness.

I read something earlier this weeks about “brain freeze”, that pain some people experience when drinking or eating something very cold, and it was describing rebound vasodilation of vessels in the brain following vasoconstriction from the ice cream (or whatever). I’ll have to try to find that article, heheh….
